5 movies of audiovisual content to understand AI

Because it’s a current subject, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is a source of many expectations, both for researchers and for the general public. Therefore, the cinematography industry has explored machines with human intelligence in several productions.

But it’s good to be careful around cinema stories. Some approaches of AI can be too fantasizing. According to the manager of the Artificial Intelligence team of Pecege, Luana Moro, we still aren’t fully closing in some of the predictions of the movies.

“In development terms, the exposition of robots with feelings and the transference of a human brain to a computer still is a utopia that only big companies with resources aim for”, she says.

Even though, robots still are the main characters in movie about AI. Luana states that this happens because machines process a larger amount of data than the human brain and do it more successfully.

To understand more about the theme, we’ve listed five audiovisual contents. Check it out!

Ex Machina (2014)

The 2014 movie shows a young computer programmer that wins a contest and is selected to live a week at the house of the company’s president. In there, the character Caleb realizes he was chosen to take part in a test and deal directly with the boss’ new creation, a robot with artificial intelligence called Ava. The seductive machine disturbs the young man’s life until he can’t know who to trust anymore.

Her (2013)

In the movie, a writer with a lonely life buys a new operational system for his computer. The protagonist Theodore falls in love with the voice from the computerized program and starts a romantic relationship with it. The story approaches the unusual relationship between human being and technology.

The Imitation Game (2014)

The plot shows the story of the mathematician Alan Turing, one of the members of the team made by the British government to crack a code used by the Germans in the Second War. For the entrepreneurs, the movie has important lessons about believing in yourself and your idea and teamwork.

Transcendence (2014)

Played by Johnny Depp, the character Doctor Will Caster is a famous researcher of artificial intelligence and works to construct a sentient machine that, besides conjugating various data, will have several emotions characterized as human. By getting involved in projects of this technological segment, the protagonist is seen as an enemy of groups that are against technological advancements and keep trying to stop him.

Black Mirror (2011)

This British series explores emotions related to contemporary situations. In each episode, of about 60 minutes (and a movie), Black Mirror shows a different story and the obscure side of technology, with new gadgets. The series genre is defined as drama, science fiction, suspense and fits into the term dystopia.

Over 12 years have passed since my first experience with Social Communication. My first professional years were dedicated to the routines of redactions with no or little digital relevance. Plural journalism was resumed in investigating facts, write a piece and guarantee an expressive picture. The first sign of change came with the proposal of changing realities and experimenting a different way of producing. From then on, the specificities of the marketing universe became permanent. Oh! I’ve also graduated in Law School (passing the bar exam and all). But not everything is comprised tom y professional skills. As a content producer, I’m interested in good stories, from real people or series, movies and books, specially dystopias. I like to draw up travel plans and identify stars and constellations on a cell phone app. Museums, music and art in general grab my attention, as well as pop culture. O primeiro sinal de mudança veio com a proposta para mudar de realidade e experimentar um formato diferente de produzir. Daí pra frente, as particularidades do universo do marketing se tornaram permanentes. Ah!
