Participating in a distance education course is already an enriching experience in itself, but having the opportunity to experience it internationally can completely transform the way we see the world and learn. The international experience of the MBA USP/Esalq gives you the chance to interact with colleagues and professors from different cultures and countries, discuss global themes and expand academic and personal knowledge.
Check out the testimony of one of our international students about the experience with the MBA USP/Esalq. The entrepreneur Mario Paz y Minô Alvarado, from Ecuador, talks about his professional trajectory and how the course contributed to teachings that he applies in his career.
Learning throughout life
Mario Paz graduated in Economics, in 1990, at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). He tells us that he knew about USP at this time when he lived in Brazil and that he wanted to be in contact with the university. “I’m sure that at the academic level, it was the best decision I made”, he says.
The entrepreneur highlights that he felt that he should update his knowledge after his graduate courses in Business Administration and in opening his own company. “Not doing it [updating my knowledge] implies renouncing growth and every professional should, in principle, seek to reach the ‘state of art’ in their area”, he says. This is how he decided to be part of the class of the MBA USP/Esalq in Business Management.

How is the international experience of the MBA USP/Esalq?
The classes are in Portuguese and have subtitles and didactic material in Spanish and English, which makes them accessible to many countries, as the student says. “We receive updated knowledge by very good professors and have colleagues with similar interests, but, above all, I feel that the environment is of excellence”, he says.
He tells us that, as an entrepreneur, he can apply many of these knowledges immediately and more so, he knows that he will use them in the medium and long term. “What is learned, both in classes, and in the reading of the recommended bibliography or through the questions of the colleagues, represents a quality leap in my career. The MBA is very practical in its teachings”.
To take advantage of the classes fully, he seeks to watch them live wherever he is. “I have done this in my city, Quito (EQ), when I need to travel, including to other countries with different time zones; in airports; in roads, where I can watch it, I do it with great satisfaction”, he says. “At this point, I want to highlight the wonderful work of the people in the coordination of classes, assistant professors and all support staff. They represent a great and timely help during the classes”, he adds.

Foreign students and distance education
Mario recommends the course to foreign students and talks about his own experience as Latin American and student of the MBA USP/Esalq. “There is the opportunity to know a culture as diverse and wonderful as the Brazilian, as close and sometimes as far as in Latin America”, he says.
Finally, the entrepreneur states that studying remotely is an option that brings knowledge closer to him, especially in a super connected world. “I sincerely hope that more people in Ecuador or in the neighbooring countries make the decision to enter USP/Esalq. Our society needs more people prepared, less empirical managements and companies that can face the changes”, he finishes.
